How does the average US Health Insurer handle HIV/Aids?

How does the average US Health Insurer handle HIV/Aids? The short answer is not very well at all. The reasons why are even more disturbing when examined closely. This is a wide subject and more than one article can cover completely, but here are some of the basics that are of utmost importance.

Unfortunately HIV/Aids are not really being handled very well from what the research available publically shows. This is not the only disease that is having an out of control effect on the overall health care system, but it is a major one. Nationally chronic diseases like HIV/Aids are becoming an increasing problem burdening health insurance, and it is a growing issue.

Worldwide chronic diseases as a whole are overtaking communicable diseases as the leading cause of death to human beings. This is already true of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. It is a downward spiral that makes it more difficult for those in need health wise to afford proper health insurance. Basically those who need medical advice and treatment the most are not going to get it currently. In opposition to this is the medical community that is best qualified to give counsel on changing lifestyle and behavior in the prevention of chronic diseases, but without health insurance you will not get the benefit of their insights. Also your insurance company may prefer you see someone outside of the main medical community to cut costs. This benefits mostly the health insurer.

Consider this fact in the truth of worldwide disease like HIV/Aids. The World Health Organization states that chronic diseases are the largest problem in the current Western lifestyle and are the number one causes of deaths globally. But at the same time they are the greatest drain to the current health insurance system in America. Those same diseases that are burdening our health insurance system - are now the chief cause of global death. This is a downward spiral. This is the reason medical insurance costs so much now in the United States. We basically are killing ourselves more quickly than the communicable diseases in nature would normally do it. This is a huge factor with no immediate answers from the global or national medical community.

The one proposed attempt at a solution, is also known as a health insurance solution, has been proposed by the state of California. California wants to try making all medical insurance less expensive to individuals who consciously choose healthier lifestyles. This is being implemented in some workplaces also nationally. Those who make healthier decisions such as losing weight, lowering their cholesterol intake, quitting smoking, exercising regularly and maintaining lower blood pressure; these folks may qualify for a lower cost medical insurance. Of course this is going to require monitoring and a matrix of standards based on your achievement of requirements. Basically by consciously avoiding dangerous behavior you can be rewarded by a federal classification which allows your insurance qualification for lower cost health care.

This is the only real option on the table at this point. Eventually the numbers of persons will have to choose from the options currently available to them in their lifetime.

How does the average US Health Insurer handle HIV/Aids? Not at all the way we should hope for those afflicted with it.
