Aids Myths

Aids Myth: I can get HIV just by being around HIV- Postive People

Since Aids or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome first began becoming a problem in the U.S. there have been myths involving the transmission and spread of the disease. In fact AIDS is not a disease that is easy to catch. There are a few things that an individual can do to get the disease of AIDS. The ways that an individual can contract AIDS are pretty well documented. One of these is to be an IV drug user and to share a needle with an infected person. The other way that is fairly certain to give you AIDS is to have unprotected sexual intercourse with an individual who is HIV positive, or to exchange bodily fluids with someone who is HIV positive.

These are the only documented ways that an individual can transmit AIDS or the HIV virus to another person. swimming in a pool with someone who has the virus, being around an individual with HIV, toilet seats or any of the other ways that it is supposed that an individual can get AIDS do not in fact.

Thee are many sorts of myths or theories under which people can get AIDS. many people unfortunately still seem to believe the myths that should have been debunked in the 80's. There are still a few people that believe the AIDS myths and there is no place for this in a modern world.

AIDS is a manageable disease similar to diabetes or arthritis. It is not the automatic death sentence that it once almost invariably was. AIDS still kills a number of individuals in Africa, it is true, but that is widely because the modern HIV drugs that are available in the U.S. are not necessarily distributed there. However, the U.S does have its fair share of AIDS cases. AIDS does cause problems in the elderly population and old age centers do have their fair share of AIDS cases. Thus people over 50 can be affected.

AIDS has killed 25 million people worldwide, and although not a death sentence it can still cause serious health problems and can lead to a great deal of expense for the individuals afflicted with the disease. That is why it is important to know the facts about this disease.

Most individuals know that AIDS is relatively difficult to get and that the use of condoms can greatly cut down on the transmission of the disease. Many people can lessen their risk of AIDS just by taking various precautions. Precautions that can help individuals lessen their risk of the disease is simply by not sharing needles if they are IV drug users, not sharing bodily fluids with an infected person, and probably most importantly wearing a condom when engaging in sexual intercourse. This is particularly important in the case of anal intercourse.

There is no reason to fear AIDS from friends or acquaintances with the disease. AIDS with all being said and done is not extremely easy to catch. It is simply by taking precautions one can make sure that they stay safe and disease free.
